Why this exists

The tracker had to fit the life, not the other way around.

ProteinText was not built by a nutrition company. It was built by one person who kept failing at the apps, and finally worked out why.

My name is Jeremy. I am a college student studying neuroscience. I also run a business, and I run—the ordinary kind, early mornings, sore legs. Any one of those is manageable. All three at once is a scheduling problem that never quite resolves.

Protein was the thing I kept meaning to stay on top of and kept losing track of. Not because I did not care, and not because the information was hard to find. Because every tool that offered to help wanted something from me first: download this, make an account, learn where the buttons are, search a database for “chicken thigh, roasted, skinless,” pick between nine entries, remember to come back tomorrow.

That is a real cost, and it lands hardest exactly when you are busiest. On the days I most needed to keep track, I had the least bandwidth to operate the thing that was supposed to help. So I would fall off. Then I would feel like the problem was discipline. It was not discipline. It was friction.

When I found I could get the tracking and the accountability through plain text messages, I jumped on it immediately—and it stuck, for the first time. Not because texting is clever, but because texting is already there. There is nothing to open. Nothing to learn. Nothing to remember to check. You send a sentence the way you would send a sentence to anyone, and the number comes back.

That is the whole idea, and it is why I wanted other people to have it. Nearly everyone I know is juggling more than they have room for. They do not need another dashboard, another login, or another small daily obligation to manage. Texting is already a part of everyone's lives. Meeting people there removes the step where good intentions usually die.

So ProteinText is deliberately small. It gives you an estimate, a running total, the gap to your target, and two check-ins a day. It does not gamify anything, it does not ask you to open it, and it does not have opinions about your body. It tells you where you stand and stays out of the way.
